Buying
Buying a timeshare: a step-by-step resale path
To buy a timeshare resale, move from a travel brief to a verified interest, a written agreement and a completed transfer. Treat ownership confirmation, closing and the first usable reservation as separate checkpoints.
Keep a simple record of the purchase stages
- Shortlist: record the listing reference and why its usage fits your plans.
- Verification: identify what the resort or administrator still needs to confirm.
- Agreement: name the responsible parties, included usage and payment conditions.
- Transfer: record who confirms completion and who follows up on the new account.
1. Define and shortlist
Tell Judi about destinations, budget, travel season and unit size. Compare a few suitable interests rather than treating every listing with the same resort name as interchangeable.
2. Confirm the terms
Request current availability and a written cost breakdown. Ask about usage already taken or reserved, loan or fee balances, program eligibility and any resort approval or right of first refusal.
3. Review the documents and closing plan
Identify the parties, closing provider, deposit handling, responsibilities and conditions in writing. Ask who will obtain ownership information, prepare transfer documents and communicate with the resort.
4. Wait for program recognition
A recorded transfer and a ready-to-use club account may occur at different times. Confirm when the program recognizes the new owner and which points or weeks are available before committing to travel.
A useful follow-up question
Does sending a buyer inquiry reserve the listing?
No. A question starts a conversation. Ask the agent what would be required to make an offer or reserve an interest under the actual written terms; do not treat an inquiry acknowledgment as an accepted purchase.
